We are delighted to announce that Iowa State University Library has joined the Open Journals Collective. The OJC is dedicated to transforming the way that academic research is supported and disseminated. The support of Iowa State for our Multidisciplinary Collections will be instrumental in helping us achieve our objectives of making journals free to read and publish in, offering a viable alternative to commercial transformative agreements, and empowering journals to flip to diamond open access.
Iowa State University Library is a committed supporter of open access to research publications. They are dedicated to creating services and using their resources to benefit Iowans and the world by pursuing an ideal where everyone has access to online scholarly information. They invest in organizations and services that support open science and scholarship to broaden the impact of the scholarly work produced at ISU and to allow ISU students and researchers to access online scholarly information across disciplines.
Robin N Sinn, Interim AUL for Collections Strategy and Access, Iowa State University Library said, “We look forward to working with OJC. The ability to support open journal publishers in a variety of disciplines provides both content and publishing venues for our researchers and students”.
Tom Shaw, the Open Journals Collective’s Library Engagement Lead, said: “We are delighted to welcome Iowa State University as one of our first members of the Open Journals Collective, and look forward to working with them as we grow our community. The OJC aims to transform scholarly publishing in a positive way, and the support of Iowa State will be instrumental in helping us turn our aspirations into reality”.
Professor Caroline Edwards, Executive Director of the Open Journals Collective, said: “It’s fantastic to be joined in our mission by Iowa State University Library. The OJC is building the necessary support infrastructure for journals and their editorial teams to publish under a nonprofit diamond open access model. Working together, we can start to reverse the outsourcing of journals publishing to commercial providers.
