TU Delft Library joins the Open Journals Collective

We are delighted to share that TU Delft Library has joined the Open Journals Collective.

We are delighted to share that TU Delft Library has joined the Open Journals Collective. The OJC is dedicated to transforming the way that academic research is supported and disseminated. TU Delft’s support for the OJC will be instrumental in helping us achieve our objectives of making journals free to read and publish in, offering a viable alternative to commercial transformative agreements, and empowering journals to flip to diamond open access.

The support of TU Delft reflects their extensive track record as a leader and innovator in open research and open science practices. TU Delft Library has been at the forefront of developing FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) principles for research data. They have been instrumental in the development of open infrastructure for research and have been active in innovative open science and open educational programmes.

Louise Otting-Geevers, Collection & License Manager at TU Delft Library, said: “We’re excited to support this initiative and look forward to collaborating. It’s vitally important to improve, innovate and diversify the publishing landscape. We need more community-led initiatives and discussions about changing our publishing cultures.”

Tom Shaw, the Open Journals Collective’s Library Engagement Lead, said: “I have long admired TU Delft for their ambitious and innovative approach to openness in all aspects of the research lifecycle. Their ethos is perfectly aligned with our vision of a brighter and more sustainable future for academic publishing. Their support will be essential in helping us to make academic journals genuinely open for all”.

Professor Caroline Edwards, Executive Director of the Open Journals Collective, said: “It’s fantastic to see our first European library join the Open Journals Collective. TU Delft is at the forefront of innovation in open access and open infrastructure. With support from their national research councils, Dutch universities are looking to shift away from inequitable and unaffordable commercial ‘big deals’ for academic journals. We’re excited to work with TU Delft to deliver this vitally important mission.
